Who We Serve

Small businesses that outgrew their books.

Branch and Ledger is boutique by design. That means we do not take everyone, and the work is better when the fit is right. If any of the profiles below describes your business, we are probably a good conversation.

No. 01 Pattern What our clients have in common

Different industries, same file symptoms.

The unifying thread across every vertical we work with is not the industry. It is the shape of the file that got them to us. Growing business. Revenue past the DIY zone. A prior bookkeeper who was categorizing transactions but not really closing the books. A CPA finding the same set of issues every March.

If that pattern sounds like your business, the specific industry is a detail we work into the engagement. What matters is that the work of rebuilding and maintaining a defensible file is the same discipline across verticals.

Industry knowledge is how we tune the work. The discipline of doing the work right is the same everywhere.
No. 02 Verticals Where we have done the most work

The industries we know cold.

This is not an exhaustive list, and the industry alone is not what makes a fit. But if your business is in one of the verticals below, we come in with vocabulary, mechanics, and pattern recognition already in hand.

No. Industry What we bring to it
01
Real estate professionals
Agent teams and brokerages: commission tracking through broker splits, team-member compensation on 1099 or W-2, marketing spend allocation, mileage. Investors: multi-entity structures, basis tracking, distinguishing repairs from capital improvements, short-term and long-term rental categorization.
02
Insurance agencies and brokers
P&C agencies and brokerages. Commission reconciliation against carrier statements, trust and premium fund segregation, contingent commission accruals, producer P&L and 1099s, AMS-to-QuickBooks alignment. Deep bench in AMS360.
03
Service and trades businesses
Field service operations where job costing, fleet expenses, materials, and crew payroll drive the P&L. Books that give you bidding accuracy and margin visibility by job, rather than just monthly revenue and expense totals.
04
Vacation rental and hospitality
Multi-property operations with revenue recognition across platforms, occupancy-tied expenses, cleaning and maintenance splits, and owner distributions where the properties belong to third parties.
05
Multi-location and multi-entity operations
Businesses running through multiple LLCs, DBAs, or physical locations where class and location tracking, intercompany transfers, and consolidated reporting are part of the monthly work.
06
Other complex verticals
Veterinary, wellness, food and beverage, and other niches where standard QuickBooks setups do not match how the business actually operates. If your industry is not listed but the file symptoms above sound familiar, the conversation is still worth having.
No. 03 Fit signals How to know if we are right for you

You are probably a fit if any of these are true.

Industry is one dimension. The other is where you are in your business and what you actually need from bookkeeping. If several of these describe you, a discovery call is probably worth thirty minutes.

Signal 01

Revenue past DIY

Your business generates enough revenue that the hours you spend on QuickBooks are more expensive than paying a specialist to do it right.

Signal 02

Your CPA keeps flagging the same issues

Every March brings the same conversation about the same problems. Prior-year adjustments pile up. Your CPA is doing bookkeeping work at tax-preparer rates.

Signal 03

You cannot answer basic questions from your books

Which service line is actually profitable. Which client is a loss leader. Where the margin went this quarter. If the reports do not tell you, the books are not working for you.

Signal 04

You are ready for a real monthly close

Not just categorization. Reconciliations, balance sheet review, written summary notes, and a bookkeeper who answers the phone within one business day.

No. 04 Not a fit When we say no

Who this practice is not built for.

Being honest about who we cannot help matters as much as being clear about who we can. Turning work away is one of the principles the practice runs by. If any of these describe you, we will tell you at the discovery call and try to point you toward a better fit.

  • A.
Very early stage or side businesses If your revenue does not yet justify boutique pricing, a virtual bookkeeper at a lower price point is a better fit than us.
  • B.
You just need transaction categorization If bank feed matching is really all you need, that is not what we do. We do full monthly closes with reconciliations, balance sheet review, and written notes. If that is more than you need, hire lighter.
  • C.
You need tax preparation or filing We are bookkeepers, not tax preparers. We coordinate with your CPA and prepare year-end packets. We do not file returns, offer tax planning, or handle IRS correspondence.
  • D.
You want AP or AR management as the primary scope Recording bills and invoices is part of standard work. Chasing customers to pay or vendors to send bills is a separate service that we quote separately, not the core engagement.
Ready when you are

Thirty minutes. Free. No pitch.

Bring your questions. We will tell you honestly what your books look like, what a cleanup would take, and whether we are the right fit. If we are not, we will point you toward someone who is.
